March 18, 2018

Andi and Jove discuss safe words but it’s not what you think though there is nothing wrong with THOSE safe words (you know the ones), either, and they love the fact that V.M. Women and Words: When doing a podcast, make sure the thing is actually recording first

March 4, 2018

Women and Words Overview - 24 Feb.-2 March 2018

Andi and Jove were so psyched for a minute that the show was going well and then realized they weren’t recording. So they had to make a do-over. Which is about how things go with them. LOL And Yvonne Heidt discovers the useful “AF” acronym and warns us about nuking oatmeal too long. And if you’re a writer, Dirt Road Books might have just the challenge for you.

24 Feb.: Women and Wordster Erin Saluta is still experiencing an Olympic hangover and this week’s book list includes titles that have some connection to a city or place that served as a setting for a previous Olympics.

  • Women and Words link HERE

25 Feb.: Author Kate Cudahy stopped by to talk to us about her start as a writer and her Duellist trilogy (women with swords, you guys). One title, Hal, is free on March 7.

26 Feb.: Author and Women and Wordster Yvonne Heidt took us on a trip into Vonnie Land, where so many ideas for blogs and stories exist that she just can’t even.

1 Mar.: Author and Women and Wordster R.G. Emanuelle is also experiencing an Olympic hangover but points out something else cool to be learned from Ester Ledecka’s giant slalom win at the 2018 Winter Games.

2 Mar.: Author and Women and Wordster Andi Marquette blogged about the latest challenge issued by Dirt Road Books, the publishing house she opened with 5 of her fave people. Pick a cover and write a book and submit it to DRB. You could possibly win a publishing contract with us! Join the #mybook challenge!

  • Women and Words link HERE
  • Dirt Road Books’ #mybook challenge link HERE
  • Find DRB on Twitter (@DirtRoadBooks) and Facebook, too.

Reminders! ClexaCon2018 is 5-9 April in Las Vegas, Nevada. DRB will be there. WOOO. And Andi will be running around fangirling with her other colleague, Lise MacTague doing Lez Geek Out! things. Also, Jove is doing a reading at the launch party for Heather Jane’s debut novel and she’ll tell us about it next week.

Also, if you can, the 3rd is the 2nd anniversary of the death of character Lexa (the day the episode aired in which she was killed by the bury your gays trope), and there’s all kinds of stuff going on around social media, including a March 3rd homage on Twitter (look for #LexaLivesOn) that includes raising money for the Trevor Project (a suicide hotline for LGBTQ youth). So if you’re so inclined, perhaps do a donation to the Trevor Project. It’s also Clexa Week in the fandoms, which involves a lot of fanart and fanfic.

February 4, 2018

27 Jan.-2 Feb. 2018

Jove finds out that Andi was legit going to try to do some actual world-building in the sci fi sense on Mars but ugh, paperwork, and Jove is also convinced that if you’re ghost-hunting, cheese may be good bait. Andi, however, remains UNconvinced of this tactic.

Women and Words: The Janes, Gender, and Music Jams

January 21, 2018

Women and Words Overview - 13-19 Jan. 2018

Andi doesn’t have to have the sadz anymore because Jove kicked the sickness cooties to the curb and came back! Yay! Plus, R.G. Emanuelle will be releasing a new book soon and for the record, Andi was more into Yaz than Erasure back in the day, much to Jove’s chagrin. But they do both agree that you haven’t lived until you’ve blasted The Cranberries’ “Zombie” while driving at night with all the windows down. (RIP Dolores O’Riordan)

Badass Women Save Themselves: Moana is the kickassiest of the princesses and here’s why

November 22, 2017
In this episode of Badass Women Save Themselves, Blythe and Jove discuss the awesomeness of Disney's Moana.

We both appreciate full-length animated features, but for us, Moana is far and away the best. From the music, to the way Moana is drawn, to the journey she undertakes (which entirely lacks a romantic component), this film hits it out of the park. Not only does Moana save herself, she saves her entire island. We dig it.

Badass Women Save Themselves: Atomic Blonde

November 8, 2017

In this episode of Badass Women Save Themselves, Blythe and Jove discuss Atomic Blonde, specifically the things that surprised them, the things that they liked, and the things the could have done without.

Charlize Theron is a badass. She saves herself and a lot of other people. And she does it all to awesome 80s music. We have lots of opinions on Atomic Blonde, and not all of them are good, but we definitely come down on the side that it's worth watching.

October 29, 2017

They would also like to remind folks that just because you’re of the lady species, it doesn’t mean you can’t fix your own bike. And who doesn’t like a headless horseman story for Halloween? Badass Women Save Themselves: Halloween Fun

October 25, 2017
In this episode of Badass Women Save Themselves, Blythe and Jove talk about all the things that make Halloween amazing.

But we love Halloween so much that it even changes the media we consume in October--Jove's family watches a Halloween-themed movie every night! In this episode, we talk about our top five favorite Halloween media--books, music, tv, and films.
