Embracing Anxiety and Mental Health with Singer, Songwriter Ash Harris - Curves Welcome

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

I have welcomed a talented artist on today's show. We're going to chat about some of life's curves and how they helped shape the course of their life.

I am so excited to introduce you to Ash Harris, also known as Acoustic Ash. Ash is a prolific indie singer songwriter who continues to excel within the songwriting field whether it be through political poetry or the ever-emotionally evoking and sincerity of Ash's interpretation of everyday events. These events include loss, love, money, and politics.

Ash uses an acoustic guitar in a smoky, soulful expression as a platform for diversity and equality. Rumor has it that if you stick around to the end of this episode you will be in for a musical treat.

And what a treat it is!

How to Deal with Creative Burnout - Curves Welcome

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

It is great to have goals and desires and a steady pulse on actions. But, it’s only great as long as you are not burning the wick on both ends. Because when you do that, that light, that energy will fizzle out.

Have you ever felt this way? Completely overwhelmed and unable to continue with projects, even those projects you absolutely love? You’re not alone. Even the most passionate of creative people can end up burning out from the pressure of always trying to keep up with an unrealistic pace.

Here's how to avoid it:

  • Unplug
  • Find harmony in the work you do
  • Add wiggle room
  • Change your environment
  • Meditate with deep breathing

How to be More Assertive - Curves Welcome

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

To be able to clearly communicate your ideas assertively in a way that stabilizes a situation is a skill that is hard to learn. The key here for those of you who are not naturally assertive is that it’s a skill that can be learned. If you don’t learn it, the costs can be great to both personal and professional relationships and problems will continue to build until you take a step to neutralize them.

In this episode, we explore these tips to becoming more assertive:

  • State the problem from your viewpoint
  • Validate and show empathy for the other person
  • State your needs and feelings
  • Be straightforward
  • Pay attention to body language

How to Have More Discipline - Curves Welcome

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

Ever have one of those days when you’re sitting there staring into space knowing you really ought to focus on something more important than that constant dialogue in your head telling you to hey, just sit here a little while longer and stare at nothing. Yeah, just keep putting that important task off until you feel up to it. The second you cave into that voice, your productivity is toast.

In this episode, we take a look at 5 ways to stay disciplined:

  • Owning up to weaknesses
  • Tossing out temptations
  • Setting a goal
  • Giving yourself credit
  • Enjoying the process

A Problem Shared is a Problem Halved

Seize the Day Podcast

Welcome to Seize the Day Podcast with Natalie Miller-Snell.

In todays show, I wanted to explore the basic concept of talking.  How a problem shared really is a problem halved.

We can often drive ourselves crazy and worry unnecessarily when we don’t share.  We can build things out of context in our mind until we are immobilised through fear.  So in this episode I talk about some of my experiences and some examples, to demonstrate why it’s good to talk.

Seize the Day was inspired by my favourite latin expression, Carpe Diem. I’ve had some great mentors throughout my life who have offered me invaluable guidance. I'm hoping to do the same through these podcasts.  We have so many wonders at our fingertips; sometimes we just need a little help, or someone to point us in the right direction.

I hope you enjoy the show!

How to be there for yourself

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

If you could have a chat with your younger self and offer a piece of life advice that would change the destiny of your journey for the better, what would that be? What would that conversation sound like? Would you ever dare talk to her in a negative voice? With a lack of respect for who she was created to be? With distaste that she isn’t more like her friends? Of course you wouldn’t. You would treat her with the kind of wise love you gained through the years.

We discuss:
  • How to thrive instead of just survive
  • How to rise out of defeat
  • A new way to view adversity

How To Be A Happy Lesbian During The Holiday Season

Les Talk About It

Tamara and Sheena talk about being a lesbian during the holiday season. They spread the joy and give some advice on how to get through the holiday season and come out better for it or at least not worse off.

They suggest:

  • Find an online community that is positive and makes you feel good
  • Read or do activities you find relaxing and not stressful
  • Split the load
  • Treat yourself
  • Be prepared for awkwardness at events
  • Make choices that help you

About The Hosts

Sheena comes from a media background and in 2014 she started The Lesbian Review, a website dedicated to reviewing the best lesbian books and movies. In 2016 A podcast channel seemed like a natural progression and so she started The Lesbian Talk Show

Sheena discovered lesbian fiction in her late teens and it helped her with her coming out process, something for which she will always be grateful.

Tamara is a marketing professional and has branched out into design and photography. Her natural love for research and learning meant that she was the perfect podcast partner when Sheena wanted to start Les Talk About It. (Well, that and the fact that Tamara is married to Sheena.)

The Desire to be Needed

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

Life is all about giving. About serving. About adding value. About being part of a greater purpose than your own. The desire to feel needed is universal and is healthy as long as it is served in a way that lifts you and betters this world and those who live in it. In this episode, I share a very personal revelation I just learned that has helped me to understand how to embrace the need to be needed in order to live authentically and purposefully.

We discuss:
  • Common misconceptions on what drives us
  • Turning wishful thinking on its side and turning to thoughtful action instead
  • Learning to discover what you truly want out of life
  • How to open up to life's unexpected surprises

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

When everything in the world tells you to turn around, to go back to where you feel safe, to go back to that place where you don’t have to expose yourself to discomfort, what do you do?

Do you follow the same path as everyone else and oblige? Or do you go toward that unknown anyway in hopes of finding your purpose?

We discuss:
  • Why the most challenging paths are the best for our future
  • How to continue the journey when others whisper your defeat with it
  • When to ignore the naysayers and travel outside the norm
  • How to keep going when everything in you screams for your mercy to stop and go back to comfort

Curves Welcome - How to Manage Time Effectively

If you are the type who says yes to everyone because you don’t want to let them down or seem like you’re not being a team player, you’re going to get hurt. By hurt I mean, you’re going to burn out. It’s as simple as that. The more demands you let others toss on you, the less time you have to be the best version of yourself. You can’t add value to your family, friends, volunteer organization, or job if you’re heading for a nervous breakdown.

Tune in to learn how to take back control of your day.
