The Desire to be Needed

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

Life is all about giving. About serving. About adding value. About being part of a greater purpose than your own. The desire to feel needed is universal and is healthy as long as it is served in a way that lifts you and betters this world and those who live in it. In this episode, I share a very personal revelation I just learned that has helped me to understand how to embrace the need to be needed in order to live authentically and purposefully.

We discuss:
  • Common misconceptions on what drives us
  • Turning wishful thinking on its side and turning to thoughtful action instead
  • Learning to discover what you truly want out of life
  • How to open up to life's unexpected surprises

Global Girl Project Interview with Julia Lynch

Seize the Day Podcast

Welcome to Seize the Day Podcast with Natalie Miller-Snell.   In todays show I am incredibly fortunate to get to interview the very inspiring Julia Lynch, founder of Global Girl Project, a wonderful leadership exchange program for young women from developing countries.  Julia tells us about #travelling #nepal #capoeira #disney and how #globalgirlproject began.

One of the motivators for starting Seize the Day was to get inspirational women on the show, to talk through how they found success, what got them to the point they are at now, and why they do it, so I’m truly delighted to have Julia join me in this episode.  She is #makingadifference in the world.

Seize the Day was inspired by my favourite Latin expression Carpe Diem.  I’m very much a “glass is half full” person and I’ve had some great mentors throughout my life, who have offered me invaluable guidance.  We have so many wonders at our fingertips and sometimes we just need a little help, or someone to remind us.

Claim Victory Over Life

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

When everything in the world tells you to turn around, to go back to where you feel safe, to go back to that place where you don’t have to expose yourself to discomfort, what do you do?

Do you follow the same path as everyone else and oblige? Or do you go toward that unknown anyway in hopes of finding your purpose?

We discuss:
  • Why the most challenging paths are the best for our future
  • How to continue the journey when others whisper your defeat with it
  • When to ignore the naysayers and travel outside the norm
  • How to keep going when everything in you screams for your mercy to stop and go back to comfort

Sheena Gets Interviewed

Seize the Day Podcast

Welcome to Seize the Day Podcast with Natalie Miller-Snell.   I’m super excited about this show.  One of the motivators for starting Seize the Day, was to get inspirational women on the show and talk through how they found success and what got them to the point they are at now.  In today’s show, I get to interview Sheena Lemos Ebersohn, founder of the The Lesbian Review and The Lesbian Talk Show.  We discuss Sheena’s journey and how the TLR and Talk Show came to be.  We talk websites, Requiem for Immortals and we learn a little about more about Sheena.

This was a really important podcast for me to do - finding the TLR changed my life, for the better.  I’ve met some wonderful friends through this great community, had so many great books recommended and I am here now, podcasting, which I would never have imagined.  Sheena has set up something truly wonderful with the TLR and Talk Show, and it’s really great to hear her take on it.

Curves Welcome - How to Manage Time Effectively

If you are the type who says yes to everyone because you don’t want to let them down or seem like you’re not being a team player, you’re going to get hurt. By hurt I mean, you’re going to burn out. It’s as simple as that. The more demands you let others toss on you, the less time you have to be the best version of yourself. You can’t add value to your family, friends, volunteer organization, or job if you’re heading for a nervous breakdown.

Tune in to learn how to take back control of your day.

Curves Welcome - Why You Want to Rock the Boat

September 13, 2018

Curves Welcome - Why You Want to Rock the Boat

Healthy conflict is essential to healthy relationships. In the beginning of the coming-of-age novel, The Fiche Room, Emma Hill avoided conflict at all costs with those closest to her. She feared fighting and what it would do to her life. She didn’t want to rock the boat because by doing so, she’d have to face potential hurt, chaos, and truths that she’d kept hidden all her life.

She assumed, like many of us, that by keeping the peace, her relationships could stay healthy. Although, what she failed to understand was that by remaining amenable, she caged herself and those she loved. By stayng silent on matters that were impotant to her, she risked destroying the delicate tapestry of honesty, integrity, and trust

Silence is not the answer.

Tune in to learn how to engage in healthy conflict and enrich your relationships.

In show four I look at how to overcome fear.  Fear can really cripple us and a lot of people are unable to do things, because of it.  I use this episode to explain how we can turn fear into confidence and action, by breaking it down into the three areas: -

  1. What is fear - why do we have fear?
  2. Different types of fear?
  3. How to overcome fear?

Curves Welcome – Life on Your Terms

Maybe you’ve found yourself living a life on someone else’s terms, a life, if given an easier choice, you never would’ve made for yourself. That happens a lot. Choosing a life path not at all in sync with your heart because it’s just easier than rocking the boat with those in your life.

It’s not comfortable to rock the boat, after all. It can be quite terrifying, in fact. It’s terrifying because you don’t know how those close to you will think of your true calling or true self. Will they still love you? Will they accept you as you truly are? Will this change in a life path alter their lives in a way that will make you feel guilt, even if it is unjustified guilt?

What’s at stake if you don’t choose life on your own terms?

Tune in to explore this with me.

Interview with Amanda McLoughlin of the Join the Party podcast

Lez Geek Out: Episode 35

Andi and Lise totally fangirled over Amanda McLoughlin, but they still did manage to chat with her about one of her cool-ass projects, “Join the Party,” a collaborative storytelling and roleplaying podcast in which four friends create a story together, chapter by chapter. Everyone from seasoned players to total beginners can enjoy this Dungeons & Dragons gameplay, with adventure, intrigue, drama, magic, and the chance to follow diverse characters.

According to the Bello (podcasting) Collective, Join the Party has “gargoyles, robots, queerness, political intrigue, and a whole lot of sound design.” JTP also has introductory episodes to teach new listeners how to play D&D, and they also have interviews with innovators who are pushing the game forward.

Amanda McLoughlin is a producer, founder of the production collective Multitude, a business builder, and old-school internet creator from New York who some of you may know as one of the co-hosts of the fabulous mythology, folklore and legends podcast, “Spirits.”
