Having worked as a high-priced escort for years, Nat Swayne not only enjoys her job - she's damn good at it. Dangerously sexy, she knows precisely how to fulfill the fantasies of women who enjoy her special brand of make-believe - all without ever becoming emotionally involved. When their night of intense play turns into something more, Emily and Nat can't help but pursue a connection in the real world. Unfortunately, old habits die hard, and love isn't always enough.

Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg

Published in 1993, this brave, original novel is considered to be the finest account ever written of the complexities of a transgendered existence.

Woman or man? That’s the question that rages like a storm around Jess Goldberg, clouding her life and her identity. Growing up differently gendered in a blue--collar town in the 1950’s, coming out as a butch in the bars and factories of the prefeminist ’60s, deciding to pass as a man in order to survive when she is left without work or a community in the early ’70s. This powerful, provocative and deeply moving novel sees Jess coming full circle, she learns to accept the complexities of being a transgendered person in a world demanding simple explanations: a he-she emerging whole, weathering the turbulence.

Leslie Feinberg is also the author of Trans LiberationTrans Gender Warriors and Transgender Liberation, and is a noted activist and speaker on transgender issues.

The Wrong Time by Voss Porter

Swept away by desire at the wrong time, Mal Davis and Raina Greer have already proven to make a royal mess of commitment. When life presents a second chance, will they throw caution to the wind or will they let the chance meeting of a lifetime slip away?

When farmer Lorraina “Raina” Greer happened upon recently widowed Deputy Mallory Davis one spring evening, sparks hurriedly flew and both women were consumed with the flames of raw passion, at all of the wrong times. As news of Mal’s past surfaces to put a stop to their burgeoning romance, both vow to move on. The trouble is, neither can seem to stop reliving those fiery nights of desire, the taste of pure lust, and the hours whiled away in one another’s arms. Neither has managed to forget. But when life presents the women a second chance, a better time, will they be brave enough to take that leap of faith into the future?

The Butch and the Beautiful by Kris Ripper

Jaq Cummings is a high school teacher who really wants a committed relationship—as long as it doesn’t keep her out late on school nights or interrupt Sunday mass with her dad. She is absolutely not about to fall for the hot-mess divorcée she hooks up with even if said hot mess pushes all her buttons. Jaq’s white knight days are over.

But one hookup with Hannah becomes two, then coffee, then more incredibly hot sex. And unlike most of Jaq’s exes, Hannah’s not looking for someone to come on strong. In fact, Hannah comes on plenty strong enough for both of them. But she’s just out of a disastrous marriage, she’s in the process of moving across the state, and Jaq can’t take a chance on yet another relationship where she defaults to being a caregiver instead of a partner.

Just when Jaq decides her relationship with Hannah is far too precarious, a crisis with a student reminds her of her priorities and makes it clear that sometimes, you have to take big risks to get what you really want.

Depths Of Blue by Lise MacTague

For Torrin Ivanov, life is a bargaining table. Every planet is a new business opportunity. Legality is optional and supplying one side in a local civil war always adds up to profit.

Jak Stowell is at war within a war. A woman hidden in the heart of a male-only army, her brother’s murder has left her desperate for vengeance. Her skill as a sniper gives her both the disguise she needs and paves the way ever closer to her real goal. She kills efficiently, without remorse. Putting down an off-world smuggler will be no different.

A moment’s hesitation. A flicker of doubt. Two women on a collision course set off a chain reaction of intergalactic intrigue—and awaken a dangerous passion that could cost them their lives.

Five Moons Rising by Lise MacTague

Unknown to regular citizens, nightmarish creatures lurk in the dark underbelly of human civilization. The presence of these supranormals (“supras”)—werewolves, vampires, demons—is a closely guarded government secret, as is the existence of a cadre of specially engineered Hunters charged with exterminating them.

Code-named Malice, Hunter Mary Alice Nolan was genetically modified and rigorously trained to use her great strength, heightened senses, and killer instincts to track and eliminate supras who prey on the innocent. A loner by choice, her only real link to the human world is her close connection to her mother and sister—until the unthinkable happens…

Ruri Samson has been a werewolf for more than a century and is comfortably situated as the Beta of her peaceful pack. Until she is betrayed by the woman she loves and an evil outsider massacres her Alpha and his most loyal followers. Barely escaping with her life, Ruri is forced to tread the perilous path of a lone wolf while vowing vengeance against the usurper and his minions.

Although these two powerful women should rightfully despise each other, fate will soon compel them to join forces on a dangerous quest to avenge their loved ones—and will ignite a forbidden passion that neither of them ever imagined.

Strengths Based Novel And Test

Comments From The Facebook Group

Michelle Do not create the opportunity for regrets. Stop hating yourself, you are special, ignore anyone who says otherwise. My past has contributed to who I am today (who I am very much at peace with) so I wouldn't want anything to change anything other than a few of the darkest moments although I suppose they are the most significant....so maybe just that everything is going to be OK

Brooklyn Don't worry, Brooklyn I'll get cool and skinny soon enough just keep trying.

Marlen Stop worrying about what everyone thinks. Don’t try so hard to fit in. Be yourself and proud of yourself

Kat Don't listen to your friends. Drinking is NOT cool and boys ARE gross

Rachel You will conclude that god isn’t real, and if she is she wouldn’t judge you for who you love so let go of that fear. The world is so much bigger and more beautiful than you know yet. Your parents may not ever fully accept you, but it will get better and it will be worth it to be true to yourself regardless. Also, don’t fully burn bridges with homophobic friends and family. You’ll be surprised at the people that come around, and you’ll wish you could restore some of those relationships you walked away from. Finally, when that girl tells you she loves you, don’t be so afraid to follow up, because you’ll always wonder what might have been.

Andi "Depression is a real thing and you're not a freak for having it and you will figure out how to better manage it. That's why I'm here and able to tell you that. Also, it's okay to be gay and you will find your people.”

Suzie Write down all those stories in your head now. Don't wait until your mid twenties.

Tig You're an introvert and at least bisexual, and that's fine. Now go out and enjoy yourself, then recharge at home for a week. And all those normal people? As weird as you, just in different ways.

Erin The world you inhabit now is as small as the minds who make you feel you don’t belong. The world beyond is limitless, so hang in there and realise your potential.

Heather Goodness, so much to say and so little likelihood that I’d have believed it. I guess I’d try for, “Live your life on the assumption that you’ll never find the love of your life, because you probably won’t. Try not to let it get to you. Oh, and you’re going to choose the wrong graduate advisor but there’s nothing can be done about it. It’s not you, it’s her.”

Em There is someone out there who will love you for who you are, so don’t panic, do not hate yourself, don’t try to change just be yourself, it will all work out. Oh yeah and getting shit faced every weekend doesn’t help, so give it a miss if you can. Also ignore that your sister said you can’t get a boy cause you are ugly, because you figure out later you are a chick magnet and never ever wanted a boy anyway.

Marlen There is nothing wrong with me it’s must be the universe

Wendy It'll all be okay in the end.

3 Lesbian Action Books Recommended by Brooklyn Recommends

The Lesbian Review Podcast

Sheena is joined by Brooklyn to talk about some of her favourite action novels. She has come up with three books that she is sure will give any action lovers a thrill.

Brooklyn’s Top 3 Action Books

1 Keepers Of The Cave by Gerri Hill

Category Starter Action/Starter Lesbian

Publisher Bella Books

Synopsis

While the investigations go on in Dallas and Baton Rouge after the disappearance of a senator’s daughter, FBI agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are assigned to the sleepy backwoods of East Texas for a dead-end assignment to infiltrate an all-girls school.

Random disappearances dating back fifty years and more raise red flags that point to the tiny, isolated community of Hoganville. But CJ and Paige fear there will be little distraction from the memories of the one-night stand they shared six months ago.

Nevertheless, they integrate themselves into the lives of the teachers and staff, but soon the odd behavior of the townspeople has them convinced something sinister lurks there. Something, perhaps, that even the residents of Hoganville don’t know about.

Six-time Goldie winner Gerri Hill delivers thrills and passion in the chilling Keepers of the Cave.

2 Five Moons Rising by Lise MacTague

Category Romantic Action

Publisher Bella Books

Synopsis

3 The Magistrate by Keira Michelle Telford

Category Advanced Action

Publisher Venatic Press

Synopsis

THE PRISONWORLD TRILOGY -- VOLUME ONE

Poverty is rife in twenty-fourth century London, England. Crime rates are at an all-time high, and living conditions for many are bleak. Capital punishment and public hangings have been reinstated, and Magistrates, in their new role, are tasked with patrolling the streets to enforce arrest warrants and 'terminate' any civilians who attempt to evade justice -- which isn't always a noble pursuit.

The laws are strict, illiberal, and unsympathetic. If you can't afford to feed and clothe yourself, you'll be sent to the workhouse. If you fall behind on your rent, you'll be sent to debtors' prison. If you're gay, you'll be hanged.

For Carmen Wild, the latter becomes a potentially deadly problem when the discovery of a murdered prostitute brings her back into the life of her first love -- the Madam of an East End cathouse -- and the illicit passions between them are swiftly reignited.

*************************************

The Magistrate is set against the backdrop of dystopian, neo-Victorian London, and features a romantic lesbian relationship at its core.

***Contains graphic & explicit language, including some M/F sexual violence***

Other Books Mentioned In This Podcast

Weeping Walls by Gerri Hill

Publisher Bella Books

Synopsis

An abandoned old house in a small town northeast of Houston is the site of a second murder, eerily similar to a supposed cold case of fourteen years earlier. FBI Agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are dispatched to find the link between the two homicides.

The team, including Ice and Billy, find the case to be anything but cold. For CJ and Paige, juggling the investigation while trying to keep their love affair a secret proves to be as hard as uncovering long-buried clues.

Eight-time Goldie winner Gerri Hill delivers thrills and passion in the chilling sequel to Keepers of the Cave.

Devils Rock by Gerri Hill

Publisher Bella Books

Narrator Abby Craden

Synopsis

Two women vow to bring a killer to justice. Deputy Andrea Sullivan had hoped to leave the horrors of Los Angeles behind her, but the serial murders of college students in peaceful, picturesque Sedona are her nightmare case to solve. The complexities stretch local resources to the limit, and the FBI joins the case with Agent Cameron Ross in the lead.

The crime scenes are covered with the trademark signs of the fiendish Patrick Doe, whose handiwork has been investigated by Dallas detective Tori Hunter and others. But where Hunter failed Cameron intends to win. She will break the case, find justice and go home. No distractions. Unfortunately, Deputy Sullivan is very distracting. And Patrick Doe has other plans.

Sheena comes from a media background and in 2014 she started The Lesbian Review, a website dedicated to reviewing the best lesbian books and movies. In 2016 A podcast channel seemed like a natural progression and so she started The Lesbian Talk Show.

Sheena discovered lesbian fiction in her late teens and it helped her with her coming out process, something for which she will always be grateful.

Tamara is a marketing professional and has branched out into design and photography. Her natural love for research and learning meant that she was the perfect podcast partner when Sheena wanted to start Les Talk About It. (Well, that and the fact that Tamara is married to Sheena.)

About The Show

10 Butch Women We Fell For

The Lesbian Review Podcast

Sheena is joined by fellow reviewer April as they talk amazing butch women in fiction.

Sheena’s Choices

Yvonne from Valley Of The Dead by Chrystal M Romero

Gay Pride weekend this year was bound to go down in history because of the nation's advances in equality. Across California's Silicon Valley, couples gathered for numerous weddings, and people showed their pride at a downtown park. Even the usual religious protesters failed to ruin the celebration. Unfortunately, history would not remember this as the day of celebrating equality but as the day the zombies overran the world. Revelry quickly turned to chaos as the crowds fought for their lives.

Yvonne Martin just wanted to relax at home this year, but a frantic call from her best friend set her on a terrifying mission to save him. Along the way, they are thrown together with Captain Jacqueline Rhodes and her partner, the last surviving officers of the police force. Together with some of their neighbors, they must make their escape from this Valley of the Dead.

Zane from Soul Mates by KA Moll

Do you believe in soul mates? Do you believe that somewhere there’s person who makes you whole? If you ran into each other at a coffee shop or on the street—would you know her? Would you have the courage to put yourself out there—to risk it all for love?

Zane was sexually assaulted just days before her high school graduation—targeted because she was a lesbian. The horrific nature of that violation has left her unable to engage in intimate relationships. They were bullies and as far as she’s concerned, they destroyed her life.

When Jaina’s mother was incarcerated, she and her brother were placed in foster care. The years spent lingering in that system have left her battling lifelong issues of abandonment. Jaina trusts no one enough to risk being hurt again. Sex is fine, but relationships are out of the question.

When circumstances result in Jaina embarking on a search for her bio-family, her path will cross with Zane’s. Both recognize the other as a soul mate, but will their love be strong enough to overcome a lifetime of baggage?

Kate Delafield from Amateur City by Katherine V. Forrest

Tough and demanding LAPD Detective Kate Delafield is the leader of the investigation into a highrise office building murder. The case is intriguing but routine - until Kate interviews the only witness, Ellen O'Neil.

When Ellen O'Neil took her new job over the objections of her lover, she wasn't expecting to become embroiled in murder. The curiosity that Kate Delafield rouses is equally unexpected. But it is never far from Ellen's mind that she is merely a name on an interview sheet to the tight-lipped detective.

Kate's thin trail of clues are enough to convince her that she is looking for an amateur, and amateurs are notoriously unpredictable and dangerous. She finds her path increasingly intersecting with that of Ellen O'Neil, who is proving unpredictable and dangerous in a far more personal way.

Amateur City is the first novel in the compelling Kate Delafield mystery series that has gripped readers all over the world.

6 Kicker's Journey by Lois Cloarec Hart

Published by Ylva Publishing

In 1899 two women from very different backgrounds are about to embark on a journey together - one that will take them from the Old World to the New, from the 19th century into the 20th, and from the comfort and familiarity of England to the rigours of Western Canada, where challenges await at every turn.

The journey begins simply for Kicker Stuart when she leaves her home village to take employment as hostler and farrier at Grindleshire Academy for Young Ladies. But when Kicker falls in love with a teacher, Madelyn Bristow, it radically alters the course of her tranquil life.

Together, the lovers flee the brutality of Madelyn's father and the prejudices of upper-crust England in search of freedom to live, and love, as they choose. A journey as much of the heart and soul as of the body, it will find the lovers struggling against the expectations of gender, the oppression of class, and even, at times, each other.

What they find at the end of their journey is not a new Eden, but a land of hope and opportunity that offers them the chance to live out their most cherished dream - a life together.
