Curves Welcome - How to Find What You Want

How to Find What You Want

What we seek, we tend to find. We look for problems, we’re going to find problems. Just as if we look for solutions, suddenly, we find solutions popping up and helping us out. I know this, yet, I still find myself failing to remember this important fact when it matters most, which is typically when I’m in the middle of a stressful situation.

Tune in to explore this with me.

Curves Welcome: How to Talk to Anyone

April 12, 2018

Curves Welcome – How to Talk to Anyone

Whether you’re a person who can walk into a room and feel as comfortable as you would walking into your own home at the end of a long work day or if you’re someone completely opposite who would much prefer skip a happy hour or baby shower or some other party where everyone else seems to be happy go lucky, you may find some value in this episode. You see if you’re the outgoing type, it might be helpful for you to understand how the other half of society feels when they enter a room full of people they don’t know.

When you ask yourself how can I walk into a party or other social scene and not want to run the other way, not want to hide in the corner, not want to cry because of the discomfort it brings me, remind yourself that you have a power within you that makes you capable of bringing light to others even in the companionship of your shyness.

Tune in to explore this with me.

Curves Welcome – How to Start a New Journey

To start a new journey takes a certain amount of boldness and courage. It requires you let go of the safety rope and test out your balance. Be willing to wobble, even fall while you get your wits about you in the new landscape. What exactly nudges us off that edge of familiarity? What is that tipping point that causes our temples to pulse, breaths to quicken, and heart to pump wildly at the thought of something new?

Tune in to explore this with me.

Curves Welcome: How to figure out what to do with your life

March 15, 2018

How to figure out what to do with your life

In this episode, I explore whether it’s worth stepping backward in order to move forward. I ended up in that position when I suffered a career blow that resulted in a demotion and pay cut.

What happens to us doesn’t determine the value we bring to the world. What meaning we assign that which happens to us is what determines the value we bring the world.

So, if you’re stuck in a place in life where you don’t want to be, where you find yourself burying your head under a blanket instead of rising with joy on your heart to greet the day, understand that it’s okay and more often than not, imperative to take that step backwards in order to move yourself towards your greater purpose in life. Don’t be afraid to step outside of what you always assumed your life should be to find something new.

I think it’s also important to say here that purpose has more to do with meaning than with circumstance. If I had been more aware of this, I could’ve ultimately found purpose in my old position by turning my attention to things within in that could make a difference. But, life had other plans. It won’t always. So, that’s why it’s important for me to say this to anyone who may feel less than thrilled in their current circumstance: Realize that wherever you are in your life, you can find purpose.

Tune in to discover how…

Curves Welcome: How to Believe in Yourself

March 1, 2018

Curves Welcome – How to Believe in Yourself

In this episode, I bring up something that happened in my past that defined me (in a good way). The path getting there was really uncomfortable, but in the end, I gained a healthy rush from it.

You see, I remember the first time I choked publicly. I was in high school. In fact, I was the new kid in town, starting over in eleventh grade in a new school. As if high school wasn’t hard enough on a kid, toss in the insecurity of having no friends, no alliances, nothing to keep yourself grounded.

So there I was an awkward teenager, with eighties hair and nerves about as strong as tumbleweed, sitting in the front row of my English classroom in a panic. Why was I in panic? Because it was the first week of school, not a soul spoke to me, and I sat alone, perched at the front of the class, pretty much a beacon for being called upon by a teacher. Why did that freak me out? I have no idea. It never did before I entered that lonely high school classroom. In my former school, I had friends, I was a majorette, I was on the cross country team, and I knew everyone. Here, I was treated like an outsider and the stakes were high for me because I wanted to belong. I wanted them to want to be my friend. I wanted to be accepted and comfortable again.

But the universe is funny when you seek comfort. It likes to screw with us, doesn’t it? Hahaha It likes to toss us into uncomfortable situations and see how long we can survive before we can thrive.

Tune in to find out how I got past this and ways you can get past challenges, too.

Curves Welcome: How to Benefit from Criticism

February 15, 2018

Curves Welcome –How to Benefit from Criticism

Novelist and motivational blogger Suzie Carr reflects back on a critical review that changed her life.

What do you do when someone criticizes you? Do you let it stop you? Or do you use that criticism to your advantage and as a tool for growth? Yeah, that’s hard to do. To look at criticism as a tool for growth. When someone slings hurt your way, the first reaction you want to take is to sling it right back, right? The ego gets involved and says, how dare you treat me this way? How dare you insult me?

But, what if you took a different approach? What if instead of slinging it back in an attempt to protect yourself from hurt, you put it aside for a while until your emotions cooled? Then, when they’re nice and cool you approach it again through a new lens, a lens of objectivity, a lens of discovery.

You’re probably thinking, hey wait a minute, this person just ripped me into a million pieces, and publicly no less, and you want me to discover something through a lens of objectivity? What are you nuts?

I guess maybe I am a little nuts. Hahaha

Tune in to find out just how nuts I can be with this…

Curves Welcome: How to Stop Comparing Yourself

January 18, 2018

Curves Welcome – How to Stop Comparing Yourself

Novelist and motivational blogger Suzie Carr reflects on how we compare ourselves to others, and the damage this causes us.

I listened to a podcast by Brendan Burchard the other day and he said something that completely resonated. “When we compare, we stop performing our best because we are following instead of doing our own thing.”

I do believe that comparisons can be helpful if you do so with the intention to grow and learn from them.

But most of us, when we compare, we are often doing so from a viewpoint of lack and if I’m being honest, envy. Of course, this doesn’t serve us. We know it’s a dangerous game to compare ourselves because it brings about feelings of inadequacy and can seriously stunt our growth. Yet, many of us still do it.

Tune in to find out why we do this and how we can stop through a simple change in perspective.

Curves Welcome: How to Improve Focus

January 4, 2018

Curves Welcome – How to Improve Focus

Novelist and motivational blogger Suzie Carr takes a look at priorities and how they play a crucial part in our life journey.

Focusing too intently on activities that aren’t related to your priorities will only cause you to move further away from it. That’s obvious, but incredibly many of us tend to forget this important fact as we go about our daily life. We are lured into the temptation of eating the wrong foods, selecting TV over exercise, procrastinating about getting our blog or books written or studying that course on finance we may have deemed as a priority. We see this neglect all the time with people who want to be active, yet they dedicate themselves to clearing out their DVD recordings by watching marathon episodes the whole day.

I’ve been there. I’ve opted to watch hours upon hours of recordings of American Idol year after year while I had big projects waiting on me to get started. Watching a star be born on American television will not help me generate revenue and put food on my table. My word count for the day will not build itself. I am not going to meet new readers or score interview opportunities if I’m parked passively in front of the television watching someone else give birth to her dream.

We’ve got this one shot at life, friends. One shot to make the most out of an incredible gift. Don’t let the distractions take you away from experiencing the satisfaction of living a life of purpose, rich with those things that open your heart and put a smile on your face.

Tune in to learn how to focus on what’s really important in your life.

Curves Welcome: Turn Uncertainty into Opportunity

December 21, 2017

Curves Welcome –Turn Uncertainty into Opportunity

Novelist and motivational blogger Suzie Carr analyzes uncertainty and its powerful effect on life. She examines those who have the ability to take a bad situation and create a good outcome from it.

Uncertainty is as much a part of life as breathing. Most of us fear uncertainty on some level. We may fear things like getting into a car accident on the way to the grocery store, losing our job that we love, finding out we didn’t get that promotion we sought, missing out on a fun vacation because of a lack of funds, having our car not start on an important meeting day. You’re not alone if you’ve had these thoughts. But what makes us have these thoughts in the first place?

Some experts might say it’s out intolerance of uncertainty that causes us to fear it.

Interestingly enough, many of us view uncertainty as a bad thing. We attribute a bad outcome to its presence. But what if that uncertainty is necessary for you to get to a new place, a better place? What if these uncertain situations create good outcomes in the end?

Tune in and see how bad things can evolve into good.

Curves Welcome: How to Be Attentive to the Present Moment

December 7, 2017

Curves Welcome – How to Be Attentive to the Present Moment

Novelist and motivational blogger Suzie Carr talks about one of the greatest life lessons she learned from her dogs, how to be more mindful in this chaotic world.

The greatest lessons I’ve learned in life have been through my dogs. Dogs are natural leaders, healers, and friends. Without words, without judgment, without criticism, and instead with a simple look, they know exactly how to communicate the important things in life.

One of the greatest life lessons I learned that I learned from my dogs is indulging in the present moment, or in other words, being mindful.

Dogs understand how to live in the present moment. They know how to dig in and really grasp the here and now. If we can learn how to be more mindful, we can learn how to live a better life. How to stay calm, centered and attentive to the present moment.

What do mindful people do on a daily basis to make the most out of life? Tune in the find out!
