Toxic People, Toxic Times

Coffee Break With KA & Dana: Meaningful Conversations From A Lesbian Perspective

Toxic people spew negativity to demean and deflate you. And they think you're the problem. Whatever insult or injury they've inflicted upon you, it's either your fault or you're making a mountain out of a molehill. -- Psychology Today (2017)

In this episode, KA and Dana discuss the topic of toxic people and toxic times:

  • Handling them in the workplace
  • Dealing with them at home
  • How having them around can negatively impact your health

KA is an author of lesbian fiction with degrees in counseling, psychology, and social work. AS KA Moll, she writes stories about lesbians, burdened by past trauma, who find healing in the love of a soul mate. As Cade Brogan, she writes thrillers.

Dana is an avid reader, a recovering alcoholic, a fisher-woman, and a graduate of the school of hard knocks.

As co-hosts, they're quite the duo. Connect with them online at www.kamoll.com

How to Make Better Decisions

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

It can be hard to make a decision. Especially important ones where the risks are great. Sometimes deciding on something is a leap of faith. You’ll never know the outcome until the consequences and benefits of your decision begin to show. What this tells me is kind of comforting in one way. Here’s why. The outcome of the decision is not as important as the act of deciding.

In today's podcast, we take a look at:

  • Avoid paralysis by analysis
  • 3 tips to make a better decision
  • What to do if the decision fails

Making and Keeping New Year's Resolutions

Coffee Break With KA & Dana: Meaningful Conversations From A Lesbian Perspective

According to www.entrepreneur.com, "a lot of people have great resolution ideas to achieve their goals, like automatic bank transfers for saving money and a new smartwatch to help with weight loss. However, statistics show that only 9.2 percent of people ever achieve their New Year's resolutions and break free from their bad habits."

In this episode, KA and Dana discuss the topic of resolutions:

  • why we make them,
  • why we find it difficult to keep them,
  • and what we can do to be more successful.

KA is an author of lesbian romance with degrees in counseling, psychology, and social work. She writes stories about lesbians, burdened by past trauma, who find healing in the love of a soul mate.

How to be there for yourself

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

If you could have a chat with your younger self and offer a piece of life advice that would change the destiny of your journey for the better, what would that be? What would that conversation sound like? Would you ever dare talk to her in a negative voice? With a lack of respect for who she was created to be? With distaste that she isn’t more like her friends? Of course you wouldn’t. You would treat her with the kind of wise love you gained through the years.

We discuss:
  • How to thrive instead of just survive
  • How to rise out of defeat
  • A new way to view adversity

The Desire to be Needed

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

Life is all about giving. About serving. About adding value. About being part of a greater purpose than your own. The desire to feel needed is universal and is healthy as long as it is served in a way that lifts you and betters this world and those who live in it. In this episode, I share a very personal revelation I just learned that has helped me to understand how to embrace the need to be needed in order to live authentically and purposefully.

We discuss:
  • Common misconceptions on what drives us
  • Turning wishful thinking on its side and turning to thoughtful action instead
  • Learning to discover what you truly want out of life
  • How to open up to life's unexpected surprises

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

When everything in the world tells you to turn around, to go back to where you feel safe, to go back to that place where you don’t have to expose yourself to discomfort, what do you do?

Do you follow the same path as everyone else and oblige? Or do you go toward that unknown anyway in hopes of finding your purpose?

We discuss:
  • Why the most challenging paths are the best for our future
  • How to continue the journey when others whisper your defeat with it
  • When to ignore the naysayers and travel outside the norm
  • How to keep going when everything in you screams for your mercy to stop and go back to comfort

How to Get to Where You Want to Be

Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

Most of us spend our time looking ahead. We get excited when we think about an upcoming trip, the beginning of a new television series, summer when it’s winter, a new job, or a holiday. There’s always something to look ahead at. Something that calls us to pay attention to it and be there in our minds instead of where we are. This can be dangerous.

We discuss:
  • Why living in the future is dangerous to your life today
  • How you can better set yourself up for success right now
  • How to connect with yourself on an intimate honest level
  • How to confront that which challenges and scares you

How to Get in the Zone - Curves Welcome

How to Get in the Zone - Curves Welcome

How to Get in the Zone

Curves Welcome

How to get in the zone. I know a lot about this. In fact, I would bet any writer knows about this. To sit down and create a brand new world in 80,000 words, give or take, requires an extreme connection with the zone. You might be a writer, cook, accountant, doctor, no matter what you do there always comes a point where you need to zone into something with everything you have. Not getting there can be extremely frustrating.

I know how that feels. First, let me say, life tosses us curveballs and those curveballs can totally take us off track. One minute we’ve got laser precise focus on our intentions, the next second, yes second, because that’s all it takes, we are thrown so far off course we can’t even begin to recognize the landscape before us.

Many things can do this to us, job loss, a fight with someone we care about, an accident, a death, even good things like winning the lottery, getting a promotion, receiving an award, beginning a new friendship or romantic relationship. Any outlier to your set point can catapult you from where you intended to be. Good or bad.

And because life isn’t linear - if it were that would be boring - we’re forced to deal with this imbalance throughout our life. And the sooner we can recenter, the sooner we’ll get back to that incredible feeling of being in the zone.

Curves Welcome - How to Add Value to the World

We’re in the midst of challenging times. Everywhere we turn, we’re hit with news that affects us all on a deep level, some deeper than others. Many of what we are facing in the world triggers alarms within, sounding off warnings that we better buckle in for a bumpy ride or else be tossed out of our seats and land in the sea of what can only be described as incomprehensible.

Families are being torn apart by indifferences brought out by politicians, governments, and religions. What once used to be an energizing get together with those we care about has now flipped into something that brings on panic, fears, and insecurities.

The situations that bring these emotional levees to the breaking point may change along with the passing tides, but here’s what remains the same: the solutions lay not in an instruction manual that in some make believe world we’d be privy to get our hands on but in our ability to act with love and compassion in order to bridge new pathways to peace within the contexts of our own lives.

If you are the type who says yes to everyone because you don’t want to let them down or seem like you’re not being a team player, you’re going to get hurt. By hurt I mean, you’re going to burn out. It’s as simple as that. The more demands you let others toss on you, the less time you have to be the best version of yourself. You can’t add value to your family, friends, volunteer organization, or job if you’re heading for a nervous breakdown.

Curves Welcome - Why You Want to Rock the Boat

Healthy conflict is essential to healthy relationships. In the beginning of the coming-of-age novel, The Fiche Room, Emma Hill avoided conflict at all costs with those closest to her. She feared fighting and what it would do to her life. She didn’t want to rock the boat because by doing so, she’d have to face potential hurt, chaos, and truths that she’d kept hidden all her life.

She assumed, like many of us, that by keeping the peace, her relationships could stay healthy. Although, what she failed to understand was that by remaining amenable, she caged herself and those she loved. By stayng silent on matters that were impotant to her, she risked destroying the delicate tapestry of honesty, integrity, and trust

Silence is not the answer.

Tune in to learn how to engage in healthy conflict and enrich your relationships.
